Le Cateau-Cambrésis is a commune in northern France, in the Nord département.
The term Cambrésis indicates that it lies in the county of that name which fell to the Prince-Bishop of Cambrai.
The museum also benefited from a Tériade donation.
Le Cateau is also the birthplace of Marshal Mortier, Pierre Nord and Raymond Poïvet, one of the creators of the famous French science fiction comics Les Pionniers de l'Espérance.
