Laryngeal papillomatosis, also known as recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, is a rare medical condition, caused by an HPV infection of the throat. It causes assorted tumors, papillomas, to develop over a period of time. This condition obstructs the airway, and without treatment, it is potentially fatal.

Treatment

• Traditional surgery to remove affected tissue.
• Carbon dioxide laser surgery: "no touch" removal of affected tissue.
• Tracheotomy: rereouting of air around the affected area.
• Photodynamic therapy: controls tumors by using targeted dyes to irradiate any cancerous tissue.
• Chemotherapy
• Antibiotics
