Fosrenol, known generically as lanthanum carbonate, is a medication within the phosphate binder class. It is sold by Shire Pharmaceuticals. It is indicated for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia, primarily in patients with chronic renal failure. It is taken with meals and binds to dietary phosphate, preventing phosphate from being taken-up by the gut. Fosrenol is available as chewable tablets in four dosage strengths, from 250mg to 1,000mg.
