Lance by Warren Tufts was one of the last of the full page comic strips. Beautifully written and drawn, it was self-syndicated by the artist, and never achieved the popularity it deserved. Historians of the comic strip rate it as one of the great strips, but people still remember the much older strip Terry and the Pirates while Lance is forgotten except by a few die-hard fans.

The strip began on Sunday, 5 June 1955. The last full page was #85. After that, the strip appeared in half page and tab. There was a daily strip that began January 14 1957 and lasted at least until February 15 1958. Casey Ruggles made a brief appearance in the daily strip. The last Lance strip was #261, 29 May 1960.
