It was created in the early 1900s. As of 2004, due to its 42% minority population, Lakewood High is known as one of the most diverse schools in Pinellas County. It is also one of the highly-funded, due to the Center for Advanced Technologies, an omnipotent magnet program attached to Lakewood. CATCOM was created by Mr. Mark Granning and Dr. Martin Shapiro in the early 21st century.

The school mascot is the Spartan. The school colors are black and gold. The Lakewood hand gesture is original.

In the 2005-2006 school year, Principal Dennis Duda transferred to Lakewood High from Tarpon Springs High after transfering from Pinellas Park Middle at the end of the 2001-2002 school year. He has improved the morale of the students during his first year by enthusiastically supporting the school and bringing forth the nickname, "The Best School In the Universe."

In addition to the school year, the CAT freshman class displayed both the lowest entry rate and the highest drop-out rate ever to be seen at Lakewood High.

Building


Other than the CAT building, the school is comprised of three lettered wings (A, B, C), as well as several numbered buildings (400, 500, 600, and 700, the "wing that God forgot"), all of which feed into the central Hub which crosses the school.

As of late, the bathrooms in the entire CAT wing (also known as the T wing) have been closed. Traditional students were engaging in inappropriate behavior involving feces.

Extracurriculator Activities


Lakewood High has shown exceptional skill in all areas of sports, excluding football.

After the 2003-04 school year, Lakewood's outstanding marching band has transformed into an outstanding drumline.

Controversy


During the 2004-05 school year, There were two staff members that were fired, Coach Brian Brutch (the head football coach) and Robert Britt. Brutch was Fired for making Racist comments to a African-American Football player. Britt was fired for getting into a fight with a student. *

Lakewood has a basement.
