La Boum (The Party) is a 1980 French language motion picture comedy directed by Claude Pinoteau and starring Claude Brasseur, Brigitte Fossey, and Sophie Marceau. The movie has been an international box-office hit. The music was written by Vladimir Cosma. Gaumont Film Company was the film studio. Richard Sanderson sang the song "Reality".
The movie is followed by La Boum 2 (1982).
The film tells the story of a teenage girl, Vic, who falls in love with a boy from the same school. She and her friends are anxious to explore relationships at "boums", or parties, without the watchful eyes of their parents. Although there is a lot of innudendo, the relationships are fairly innocent. At the same time, Vic's parents have extramarital relationships before reuniting towards the end of the film.
