Kostroma Oblast () is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the city of Kostroma. Major historic towns include Kostroma, Nerekhta, Galich, Soligalich, and Makaryev. Textile industries have been developed there since the early 18th century.
The region was detached from Yaroslavl Oblast in 1944. There are plans to unite them again, though. Area 60,100 km², population 736,641 as of 2002 All-Russian Population Census.
