Klang Valley is an area in central Selangor, Malaysia comprising Kuala Lumpur and its surroundings and suburbs. Properly, it encompasses the whole Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and the districts of Gombak, Klang, Petaling and Sepang of Selangor. It is naturally delineated by hilly and mountainaous areas to the north and east and the Strait of Malacca to the west. It is named after the Klang River, a historically important river that flows through the valley.
The conurbation has a total population of over 4 million as of 2004, and is the heartland of Malaysia's industry and commerce. In the most recent census, the population in the Klang Valley has expanded to 5.2 million, and in 2006, the population in this area is estimated to be 6.5 million *. In most occasions, usually Klang Valley would be the first to have everything, new, cool, hips and happenings compared to other parts of Malaysia.
