Killara is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the Ku-ring-gai Council Local Government Area. The name originated from an Aboriginal word meaning "permanent", and was given by James George Edwards. There is a railway station on the North Shore Line near the Pacific Highway in Culworth Avenue. Killara is considered one of the wealthier suburbs of Sydney, and is surrounded by bush on its eastern border.

Politics


For Federal elections, Killara lies in the electorate of Bradfield, currently represented by Brendan Nelson of the Liberal Party, who won the seat in the 2001 and 2004 elections by a strong majority. For State elections, Killara falls under the State Electoral Districts of Davidson and Ku-ring-gai.
