Kathleen "Kat" Moon (née Slater) was a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. She was played by actress Jessie Wallace. She was also played by Kate Peck in a flashback in 2001. She first appeared in the show in September 2000.

Kat is the daughter of Charlie and Viv Slater. Kat's usual dress is very short skirts and leopard-print tops, with a lot of make-up and heavy fake tan, and is a known tart. She would often go on all-night binges and has slept with many men, but has calmed down since then. As such, she can be described as a tart with a heart stock character.

Storylines

Uncle Harry

When Kat's sister, Zoe, planned to leave London to work with their uncle, Harry, in Spain, she shouted down supposed sister Kat's objections with "You can't tell me what to do, you ain't my mother!", to which Kat replied "Yes, I am!". Harry had regularly abused Kat with the knowledge of her mother Viv, resulting in her pregnancy at the age of thirteen; her father Charlie, Harry's brother, remained in the dark for years while they raised Zoe as their own. The woman Zoe had called her mum was really her grandmother; her dad was her uncle and grandfather; her sister was her mum; and her uncle was her grand uncle and her father! Zoe fled Albert Square and Kat slashed her wrists.

Anthony Trueman

One of Kat's boyfriends came in the very unlikely form of Dr. Anthony Trueman. He was mesmerised by her, and they had a lot of fun, but Kat ditched him when he revealed that he was falling in love with her. Her daughter, Zoe, later became engaged to the doctor, much to the strong disapproval of Kat and the rest of the Slater family. Zoe cut all ties with Kat over this. As the wedding approached, Zoe disappeared, and when she re-appeared, saying that she needed time to get away and think about the serious life-changing step she was about to take, she was gutted to find Anthony and Kat had re-united, this time in a more serious relationship. Kat realised that all of Anthony's doctor and 'posh' friends looked down on her, and that she and Anthony would never fit together, and they broke up. Kat later found out she was pregnant with Anthony's baby. She toyed with the idea of having an abortion before deciding to keep the baby, however, she sadly suffered a miscarriage and was comforted by Alfie Moon.

Turbulent life

Kat's relationship with Alfie Moon was notably rocky. After months of harbouring his secret, Alfie decided to tell Kat of his affection for her, but she came home from a trip to New York, engaged to local gangster Andy Hunter. Just before the wedding, Kat visited Alfie's grandmother, Victoria Moon, in hospital, and falsely believing she was asleep, admitted to loving Alfie. Victoria told her grandson this upon his next visit, and he rushed to Kat and Andy's wedding ceremony to confess his true feelings to her just as she was about to be married. The pair risked their lives by jilting Andy at the altar and marrying the following month on Christmas Day 2003, but when Andy was battered by some heavies, Kat and Alfie took him in and nursed him to health.

After just five months of paradise running The Queen Victoria pub, Alfie borrowed several thousand pounds from Andy to bail out Kat's father, Charlie, who had been arrested for beating up his daughter Little Mo's rapist, Graham Foster. Andy turned nasty and began to demand sums of cash every week that he knew Alfie couldn't afford. Andy's plan (to wreck the Moons' marriage) started to work, and the strain grew strong, and Andy offered Kat a chance to pay off the whole debt easily — by sleeping with him. She reluctantly went through with it just as Alfie finally got all the money. Andy kept the money and gave Alfie a video tape of him and Kat having sex. The marriage quickly started to rip apart, and after Kat's boozy antics, Alfie threw her out, and she Left the Square to stay with a friend for a while.

Between the split in November 2004 and Kat coming home to Walford in May 2005, Alfie started a fond relationship with Kat's sister, Little Mo, whose own marriage had fallen apart after she had refused to abort the child which was conceived after her rape. Alfie helped Mo bring up her baby, Freddie, and the pair decided to announce that they were becoming an item just as Kat walked back into their lives. They decided to delay their relationship until things cooled down, but Kat made it clear that she wanted Alfie back. They grew a strong attraction and Alfie was secretly torn between the two sisters, eventually choosing Kat. He let Mo down gently, and they gave each other a final goodbye hug, which Mo's estranged husband, Billy Mitchell (the only other person to know of their secret romance) mistook for them getting together, and drunkenly announced a congratulations to Alfie and Little Mo in the pub, blowing the secret. Kat blew a fuse, and after a dramatic showdown, decided not to get together with Alfie so as not to break her sister's heart.

Den Watts's murder

After her homecoming in mid-2005, she built a very strong relationship with her daughter, Zoe. Kat noticed that Zoe seemed especially withdrawn, and when her daughter decided to leave the Square, Kat was determined to find out what had happened. Eventually, Zoe informed her mother about her part in the death and hasty burial of Den Watts, and about how Chrissie Watts had let her believe she had killed him. Kat was deeply shocked, and at first refused to even speak to Zoe out of disgust. Kat eventually forgave her daughter just as she was about to leave for Ibiza in June 2004, and swore revenge against Chrissie for the hell she had put Zoe through. Then the body of Den Watts was dug up on the wedding day of Dennis Rickman and Sharon Watts on August 29 2005 by Sam Mitchell who was another accomplice in the death of Den. Kat let Sam get arrested despite knowing Chrissie was the real killer. She wanted to ensure Zoe's name would not come into the investigation of Den's death.

Reunion with Alfie and departure

Kat and Alfie were reunited soon after due to Kat's relationship with Alfie's grandmother, who was dying from alzheimer's disease. After Kat helped Alfie complete some of Victoria's final wishes and overcome her death on December 16 2005, it was obvious that they longed for each other. Alfie announced his wishes to ride a motorbike round the United States, and it seemed that he had gone when he waved goodbye to a tearful Kat on Christmas Day 2005, and after getting drunk and drowning her sorrows in the pub, Kat was stunned to walk outside and see Alfie waiting for her. She jumped in the car with him bare-footed, and they drove off together leaving Walford.
