John Roemer is an American economist. He graduated from University of California, Berkeley with a PhD in economics. He currently is Professor of Political Science and joint professor of economics at Yale. He previously taught in the department of economics at the University of California, Davis for several years and has also worked as a labor organizer. His specialisms are political economy, distributive justice, and theory of socialism. Roemer is one of the founders of analytical Marxism (along with Gerald Cohen, Jon Elster, and others). He has emphasised the importance of providing game-theoretic micro-foundations for Marxist social theory and economics.
