Jason Cross is an American professional wrestler, currently wrestling on the Georgian independent circuit, and making appearances at World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) as Kurt Angle's Security.
Career
NWA Wildside
Cross debuted in the
Georgia-based
NWA Wildside promotion in
1998, and won the NWA Wildside Heavyweight Championship from
David Young in
Cornelia, Georgia on
June 1,
2002. He held the title for just ten days before announcing his retirement from wrestling and vacating the title on
June 11. However, his retirement did not last long. Upon his return, Cross
turned heel and sided with Jeff G. Bailey's
NWA Elite faction, betraying
Rick Michaels in the process. The newly turned Cross then went on an undefeated streak, at one point "retiring"
Altar Boy Luke. With the help of the rest of NWA Elite, Cross defeated Caprice Coleman for the NWA Wildside Television Championship on
March 27,
2004 in Cornelia. He held the title until
July 3, when he lost to Jeremy V. Two months later, he regained the NWA Wildside Heavyweight Championship by defeating Onyx. His second reign lasted until
December 4 of that year, when he lost to
Ray Gordy.
Cross left NWA Wildside in January 2005 after agreeing to work for Georgia Championship Wrestling during a Wildside TV taping, leading to a disagreement between Cross and Wildside officials.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling
Cross debuted in
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) on
December 11,
2002, losing to Tony Mamaluke in probably the best match on the PPV. He became #1 contender to the X-division title on two separate occasions, challenging Sonny Siaki and Kid Kash. Cross was absent from TNA for most of 2004, but returned in
August, facing
A.J. Styles on several occasions. On
November 7, 2004, at
TNA Victory Road 2004, he took part in a
20-Man X Division Gauntlet. Cross entered at number fourteen, and was eliminated by
Psicosis following a
Inverted DDT.
Georgia Championship Wrestling
Cross joined GCW in
2004, and won the GCW United States Junior Heavyweight Championship on
September 7, defeating the wrestler in
Columbus, Georgia. He lost the title to
Glen Gilberti on
October 14, but regained it on
November 27 of that year in a three way match which also included
Nigel McGuinness. His second reign continued into
2005, but on
February 20 he was stripped of the title after he was disqualified during a title defence against David Young and attacked the referee in a fit of anger. He regained the vacant title on
March 19, defeating Young in a best of three series, and lost the title for a third time on
April 2, this time to
"Primetime" Elix Skipper in a three way match which also included Gilberti.
Cross became the first ever GCW National Television Champion by defeating Young in the finals of a tournament in Columbus, Georgia on April 16. He lost the title to Gilberti on May 21 in a four way match. Shortly thereafter, Damien Steele defeated Gilberti to win the title, then defeated Skipper to unify the GCW National Television and United States Junior Heavyweight Championships. Cross defeated Steele to win the unified title on July 23, 2005, but lost to Gilberti once more on August 6.
