The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) focusing on defense issues.

IDA maintains its headquarters at 4850 Mark Center Drive in Alexandria, Virginia. IDA also maintains several satellite offices.

The IDA Simulation Center (SIMCTR), formerly a separate division, merged with the Joint Advanced Warfighting Program in 2004.

Work


IDA's work is primarily in producing studies and analyses for the federal government of the United States on defense issues, generally requiring a high degree of scientific or technical expertise. IDA works only on projects sponsored by the U.S. federal government. The vast majority of IDA's sponsors are Department of Defense or Department of Homeland Security agencies and offices, though a small portion of IDA's work comes from the Department of Energy.
