An Ina Bauer is an element in figure skating, where the skater skates on two parallel blades - on the inside edge of the straight trailing leg and on either the inside or outside edge of the bent leading leg. If leading leg is also straight, it is called spread eagle. The most flexible skaters can bend over almost completely backward.
It is named for the inventor of the movement, German figure skater Ina Bauer.
Shizuka Arakawa of Japan is famous for her flexible take on this move, where she bends her back backwards until her head is upside down. She performed it during her gold medal-winning free skate at the 2006 Winter Olympics.
