ISO 3166-3 is an international standard that defines codes for outdated ISO 3166-1 country codes and is part of ISO 3166.
ISO 3166-3 uses four-character alphabetic codes. The first two characters are the withdrawn code from ISO 3166-1, while the last two characters are the ISO 3166-1 code that replaced it, the ISO 3166-1 code of the country that absorbed the country whose code is withdrawn, or the special code HH to indicate that there is no single successor code.
