Aerosmith Version

"I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" was a hit single by American rock band Aerosmith. It was taken from the Armageddon soundtrack and debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The song stayed at number one for four weeks from September 5 to September 26, 1998. The song rose steadily up the charts in the UK, peaking at number four in November 1998.

Although it was the first number-one song for Aerosmith, many hardcore and heavy metal fans do not count it as one of their greatest hits since the song is a love song. "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" was written primarily by the credited songwriter, Diane Warren, although member Joe Perry helped Warren in the songwriting process.

Unluckily for Aerosmith, this song was nominated for a Razzie for Worst Original Song, but escaped the win.

Cover versions

  • Mark Chesnutt recorded a cover of the song, which was a number-one country song for two weeks in 1999 and peaked at number seventeen on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • Pop diva Regine Velasquez covered the song for her multiplatinum album r2k. Unlike Aerosmith, it is done in a mellow ballad style and became one of her signature and most notable songs due to its powerful vocals.

In a 2006 poll for a Channel 4 program Britain's Favourite Break-up Songs, "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" was voted fourteenth.
