Hooperman was an ABC television series starring John Ritter that had a two-year run from 1987 to 1989. It is perhaps best categorised as dramedy, a combination of drama and comedy.
Ritter played San Francisco plainclothed policeman Harry Hooperman. Hooperman owns a rundown apartment building together with his girlfriend Susan Smith (played by Debrah Farentino) and his dog Bijoux – a Jack Russell terrier. The show was filmed rather than taped, giving it a better production quality than many conventional (ie, studiobound) sitcoms. The brainchild of Steven Bochco ("Hill Street Blues", "L.A. Law", "NYPD Blue") and Terry-Louise Fisher ("L.A. Law"), the show was good-natured and often quite funny. The main theme was composed by Mike Post.
