Hive is an abstract strategy game, designed by John Yianni and published in 2001 by Gen Four Two. There is no gameboard. The game can be played on any level surface. Players each control 11 hexagonal pieces of one color. The pieces each represent a different type of arthropod. There are 5 different arthropods in the game.. each with it's own unique abilities. The game starts with no pieces in play. On a turn a player can elect to move a piece already in play or place a piece into play. The object of the game is to completely surround the opponent's Queen Bee.

On December 20, 2005, Hive overtook Go to become the highest-rated abstract strategy game on the Internet Top 100 Games List.

Published editions

The original edition of the game used wooden pieces and stickers to denote the arthropods.

The modern edition of the game uses bakelite pieces and painted etchings to denote the arthropods.
