'' Haunting Ground (known in Japan as Demento) is a video game that was developed by Capcom Production Studio 1 and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 2 games console in 2005. It was originally going to be part of the Clock Tower series of video games, but this was scrapped early into its development, but gameplay has similarity with the Clock Tower series.

The player character of Haunting Ground is Fiona Belli, a female who wakes up locked in a cage, somewhere inside an old castle. She has no idea where she is or how she got there, and starts exploring the castle in order to find a way out.

Story

Fiona Belli has somehow found herself in a very creepy castle. She has just been in an automobile accident; her memories of this accident, however, are vague and incomplete. She meets the castle's maid, Daniella, who comes out of nowhere to give her a new set of clothes. (Fiona has until this point been running around in a bedsheet.) From there on Fiona, knowing nothing about the castle and how she got there, sets out on a journey about the estate to find the answers. Fiona is not alone, though; along for the ride is a stray white German Shepherd named Hewie, who helps her during the whole course of the game. Hewie is a brave four-year-old German Shepherd who (if treated right) puts his own life on the line to save Fiona. Hewie can grow stronger and his attacking power will increase; this will help Fiona, as she needs the hound to attack her pursuers. If not treated well, Hewie will grow aggressive and attack Fiona instead.

During her stay, Fiona is attacked and pursued in turn by the castle's occupants. The girl is confounded as to why these strange and insane characters want to murder her; they all want something different from her.

Characters

Fiona Belli

Information: A college student returning home. Blonde, blue-eyed, and tall. She has inherited the Belli Castle along with its inhabitants. She is also in possession of the Azoth.

Attacks: Tackle and Kick. Or she may use Magnesia and Atimony Powder.

Death: Shot by needles, eaten alive by bugs, crushed in a maiden, shot by a soldier statue, crushed with a rock crusher.

Hewie

Information: A white four year old German Shepherd tied to a tree at the beginning of the game by Debilitas. It turns out that he messed around with a few alchemic substances he wasn't supposed to and earned the anger of Riccardo or Lorenzo (unknown). Fiona finds Hewie near the beginning of the game. It is debatable whether Hewie was also featured in Resident Evil 4 alongside Leon Scott Kennedy.

Attacks: Hewie will attack enemies when Fiona says to. He can bite on the neck, leg, and tackle them, sometimes knocking enemies back.

Death: Hewie cannot die from traps like Fiona, but the enemies can kill him if they attack him too much.

Debilitas

Information: A man with the mentality of a five-year-old. He is very tall, towering over Fiona, has black eyes, and a tuft of hair. He chases Fiona through the castle until he finally corners her in a chapel.

Attacks: He grabs hold of Fiona and squeezes her, he punches her, and he can scare her causing her to run around like a mad woman.

Death: Killed in the chapel by Hewie.

Daniella

Information: The maid of the castle, Daniella is tall, thin, purple-haired and pale-skinned. Created by Lorenzo Belli using mandragora blood, she cannot feel pleasure or pain. She is very jealous of Fiona for her human feelings and her capability to bear children.

Attacks: Daniella attacks using two weapons, A glass shard and a hot flame poker. She can easily do a one hit kill by slashing you.

Death: Impailed by glass.

Riccardo

Information: A gun-wielding man who is hooded in monk-like attire for the first portion of the game. He later reveals his face; which is full of scars. He seeks to catch and contain Fiona instead of kill her, so that he may impregnate her and continue his family the natural way, with their Azoth and blood, as cloning has failed him time and time again.

Attacks: He uses his flintlock, or does punches.

Death: Falls off the water tower.

Lorenzo

Information: An old man in a wheel chair who seems to be no real threat. He helps Fiona escape the castle by sending her various kinds of messages. He leads her to his "mansion" (H.O.T - House Of Truth) and reveals to her that he needs her Azoth. In his current state, he is incapable of even defending himself, let alone capturing Fiona (her kicks alone can KO him for a short while). At one point he even loses the wheelchair and chases Fiona by crawling with unnatural speed. He calls Fiona into a room and locks her in. He is then briefly shown but she whines "Daddy?" and he laughs. He corners Fiona and transforms into a much younger-looking man. Unfortunately, Lorenzo has also gained powers that can greatly injure Fiona.

Attacks: Alchemy Powers.

Death: Smashed by rock crusher, falling in the lava pit.
