Hannah Montana is a Disney Channel Original Series produced in part with Sony Pictures which made its debut on Friday, March 24, 2006. Miley Cyrus stars as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana, who lives a double life as a normal girl at school during the day and a famous pop star (Hannah Montana) at night. However, no one knows about her secret except for her widowed father, who is also her manager (played by Miley Cyrus' father Billy Ray Cyrus), her brother, her grandmother, her two best friends, and a revolving guest cast of costumers, security guards, and the like. The show is co-created by Michael Poryes who also co-created another hit Disney Channel show That's So Raven.

The series premiere scored record ratings for Disney Channel: 5.4 million viewers, an unbelievable response — "beyond our wildest expectations," according to the president of Disney Channel Entertainment Gary Marsh, most likely due to its lead-in from the DCOM Cow Belles, starring Aly and AJ Michalka. The show averaged 3.5 million viewers an episode in the month following its debut.Jacques Steinburg, "A Tale of Two Tweens: One Real and One Disney", The New York Times, April 20, 2006.

Characters

Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana

Pop Star played by Miley Cyrus
Miley Stewart is a regular teenage girl leading a normal life with the problems of zits, boyfriends, friends, parents, etc. But under the alias Hannah Montana, she's a pop superstar singing sensation. Only her two best friends, Oliver and Lilly, her brother, and her dad/Manager/Producer know about her double life as a singer and she tries to keep it that way. In the tri-show episode, we learn that Hannah also enjoys vanilla flavored cake; apart from singing and hanging out with her family and friends. Miley's mom died 3 years ago and her dad is now a single parent of two kids. In one episode, Miley is going out with a boy who hates Hannah Montana, but decides to give her a chance anyway. So he takes Miley to a Hannah Montana concert. Miley has to say she's getting a pretzel when she's really morphing into Hannah. She tries to impress this guy by doing strange things. It shows how hard living a double life can be.

Lilly also leads a double life when she's with Hannah - she's either Lola Luftnangle or Lola LaFonda. As the Lola Luftangle alter ego she wears bright blue cyberpunk clothes and a light purple wig. When she's Lola LaFonda she wears a red wig and heavy make-up. As Lola Luftnangle, she embarrasses Hannah Montana very often. Lilly's identity changes along with her disguises, but her first name Lola never changes.

From then on, they decided to be just friends. Oliver's self-proclaimed nickname is "Smokin' Oken" or Olly trolly. He thinks the ladies are all over him. In one episode he gets makeup put on his face by Amber and Ashley. He definitely makes an "ugly woman". He is not very smart and often does stupid things. He has had a great fear of gum chewing ever since he was a little baby because of this scary woman who accidentally dropped chewed gum onto him while babysitting. He really likes to impress the ladies!Oliver also has girlfriend mamed Becca starting in Oops I meddled again.

Hannah Montana's producer and Hannah Montana/Miley Stewart's dad played by Billy Ray Cyrus

Her dad is always there to give her helpful advice, like the time Miley's date took her to a Hannah Montana concert and when Miley and Lily did cheerleading together.

Jackson Stewart

Miley Stewart's annoying brother played by Jason Earles
Jackson Stewart is the older brother of Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana. He cares about 4 things in life: food, girls, his image, and money. He was once found wearing his younger sister's clothes, as he was paid to model them by Hannah's costumist. He has a best friend named Cooper. Jackson works at Rico's surf shop on the beach. His boss has a son named Rico, who Jackson is forced to be nice to, no matter how mean Rico is.

  • A scene from the real Hannah Montana concert aired on July 7, 2006 as a music video and also in Disney 365.

Continuity Errors and Goofs

  • In Miley Get Your Gum, Oliver is hanging upside down on Hannah's limo's sky window. Hannah quickly puts on her wig, and you can see her face perfectly. However, when they go to the scene when the dog licks Oliver the second time, and go back to Hananh, you see that Hannah's face is covered by wig, and is all messy while Lily tries to rearrange them. Either, Lilly being her own self, or the wig decided to mess itself up.
  • In Mascot Love where Miley tries out for the cheerleading squad, Oliver mentions his phone number in the microphone, the first time he mentions 555-0121, but the second time he mentions 555-0127.
  • In Ooh, Ooh, Itchy Woman, the tent Miley built was red first, then blue the second time.
  • In She's a Supersneak, when they are behind the cutout while the guy is looking at it, it's beside the poster for "The Mystery", then in the next shot it's beside the poster for "Heartbreakers", then it's back beside the "The Mystery" poster.
  • In Lilly, Do You Want to Know a Secret? Miley is so nervous in front of her crush Johnny Collins that she pours ketchup onto her hand instead of her burger. After Johnny leaves, one can see that Miley's hand is stained with ketchup, but in the next shot it's clean, and in the shot after that it's stained. Her hand is clean for the remainder of the scene.
  • In Lilly, Do You Want to Know a Secret? Miley comes home with a french fry in her hair, and sits down. She talks with her dad while taking off one shoe. Then, in the next scene, she stands up with both shoes off. The second shoe disappeared.
  • In Grandmas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Favorites, Lilly and Robbie always have to change their names and wear disguises so there will be no connections drawn between them and Miley, but Jackson and Mamaw attend the command performance for the queen (as guests of Hannah Montana) without disguising who they are. (Jackson is wearing a security guard suit, and Mamaw is almost never seen with Miley)
  • In She's a Supersneak, Miley and Jackson hide in a closet, and they complain that it is cramped. But then Miley walks away and Jackson says, "Ooh, thats embarrassing". Then, Jackson steps into the closet, like there is plenty of room, even the background shows that there is enough room for 2 people.
  • In Ooh, Ooh, Itchy Woman, Oliver gets dressed in girl's stuff, lipsitck and a scarf. Then, when the teacher walks in and asks why "today is the worst day of my life", Oliver raises his hand, but the scarf is gone, not around his neck or on the desk.
  • In Miley, Get your Gum, Hannah Montana blows a huge black bubble onto Oliver's face. Oliver peels it off and throws it on the ground, but in the scene when Hannah tells Oliver who she really is, the black gum isn't on the ground anymore.
  • In Oops! I Meddled Again Miley says, "Eww. Now I have to burn it.", meaning her bra that Jackson touched, but instead she throws it in the trash can. {probably because she was joking about burning it}
  • In Disney 365 Miley Cyrus said that they filmed the show on the beach. In the episode It's My Party and I'll Lie if I Want To, part of the episode was Miley and Lilly at the beach. If you look carefully at the back, you see people but they aren't moving, which tells us they use a different beach background for the beach episodes.
  • In "Oops, I meddled again," after Oliver tells Miley and Lilly about his date, he closes his locker during a close up and didn't lock it. Then, when he leaves his locker, you an see that there is a lock on his locker.
  • In "Oops, I meddled again," Miley's father says that he just made a song for Hannah Montana with the lyrics "The other side, the other side, the other side of me", but in Grandmas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Favorites she practices a song to sing to the Queen of England with the same lyrics even though it was never completed in any episode.

Trivia

  • During the beginning of this project Miley's name was "Zoe Stewart" instead of "Miley Stewart" this was changed however after Miley Cyrus was cast as the lead.
  • Every musical segment Miley performs on the set is somewhat goofy and odd. But in concerts, she does it flawlessly.
  • In the episode "It's A Mannequin's World", when Miley's dad threw out his back, and he said "Oh My Achy Breaky Back", which is a reference to his hit song "Achy Breaky Heart".
  • In "Ooh, Ooh, Itchy Woman", after Billy Ray Cyrus told Jackson that he shouldn't kill a mouse with musical talent, he asked the mouse if it could play the song "Achy Breaky Heart", which, like the post above, that is his hit song.
  • In the episode "I Can't Make You Love Hannah If You Don't", the outside of the movie theater shows the fictitious ad of the big play (The Importance Of Being Earnest) that Mary Jane stars in Spider-Man 2 on the side, as also shown in a clip of Spider-Man 2.
  • The two stars (Miley Cyrus and Emily Osment) of the show's first names have all the same letters and the same amount. Emily can be rearranged into Miley, and vice versa. All you have to do is move the E.
  • High School Musical is parodied in the episode "It's a Mannequin's World" when Jackson's friend offers to bake Miley's birthday cake. Then he makes a big speech parodying Zeke's "I Love to Bake" speech in High School Musical.
  • In this show there is a character named Ashley Dewitt, in Billy Ray Cyrus' show Doc there is a character with the last name Dewitt.
  • The episode "Oh Say Can You Remember the Words" was showed at the Hannah Montana concert at Typhoon Lagoon water park in Disney World.
  • In Billy Ray Cyrus's show, Doc, he was a doctor from Montana. In this show, Miley Stewart's stage name is Hannah Montana.
  • Miley's friend Paige helped with the production money of Hannah Montana along side with Billy Ray Cyrus and the producer.
  • Miley is known for having an excited personality in the public. On the show, she is extremely deadpan.
