The Halberd is a fictional airship from the Kirby series. Within the series its primary function is as a massive transport for the Meta Knights and their army of soldiers, lead by Sir Meta-Knight. Meta-Knight's visage graces the bow of this mighty vessel. It is all but indestructible from the outside. Its name is a reference to both a weapon and a company.

Appearances

The Halberd has only appeared twice to date.

  • Kirby Super Star - First appearance. Kirby infiltrated and destroyed it. It sank into the bottom of the sea in the ending.
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Second appearance. The design here is far sleeker than the first one, so it's probably a new Halberd altogether.

Anime Halberd

Despite only appearing in two games so far, the Halberd also made its way into the anime itself. It first appears in the first of the final three episodes (which first aired in America as the direct-to-video film, Kirby: Fright to the Finish). According to Meta Knight, he had been building it by himself with Sword Knight and Blade Knight's help since he arrived in Dream Land. Of course, Meta Knight had to keep the Halberd a secret because if Nightmare learned of it, all would be lost. Learning that Meta Knight built the Halberd in his basement, King Dedede and Escargoon were suspicious and tried to blow up the ship by planting a time bomb on it because the NME Salesman said that if they got rid of the ship, the King's monster transmitter would be fixed at no charge (it was already destroyed before the salesman told him so), and he would throw in a free monster. But their plan backfired and they got stuck on the ship, which took off and blew up the Destrayers that were taking the attack to the already-destroyed Cappy Town. According to Sword Knight, the Halberd is made to move at hyper-speeds, which is why it travelled 900 light years through a wormhole to Nightmare's base. Of course, it came out of the wormhole one light year away from it because Meta Knight didn't want Nightmare to spot it yet. Nightmare learned that the Halberd was coming and sent one of his monsters, Heavy Lobster (the final monster that Nightmare sent on Kirby), to destroy it, but Kirby stopped him. The Halberd finally got to the base and was about to launch a sneak attack when King Dedede let the salesman in on the crew's plan. So the Halberd crew had no choice but to attack at once. While taking out tons of the Destrayers that were protecting the base, the Halberd was also helped out by three of them, which were piloted by Knuckle Joe, Sirica, and Arthur, Falspar, Noisurato, and Dragato. It finally entered the fortress and combated Nightmare only to not be able to hurt him because his cape absorbed its lasers. So the ship took cover in the cap where the laser fire that started attacking it not long after it began combating the wraith himself wouldn't reach it. Finally, three enemy Destrayers managed to get through to where the Halberd was, and kept firing at it until it fell down the hole, making a nice explosion that destroyed those three Destrayers, but not before all of the Halberd crew evacuated, not long after which they escaped Nightmare's base via monster delivery system after Kirby defeated Nightmare, after which the time bomb that Tokkori planted on it went off and blew up the fortress from the inside out.

The Halberd in the anime is based on a popular anime ship, the Space Battleship Yamato. It is powered by its main engine, and there are several cannons loaded onto it, including one called the Gravity Disruptor, which uses a plasma beam that punches through any enemy defense, especially including Nightmare's. It has special rooms that were built for Chef Kawasaki and Dr. Yabui, plus a jail cell that Chief Bookem locked Dedede and Escargoon up in and a fitness center where Kit Cosmos trained some of the Halberd crew. The battle bridge serves as a place where Meta Knight and his crew were able to communicate with people whether they're on the Halberd or not.
