In Norse mythology, Gungnir (also Gungni, Gungner, or Gungrir) was the name of Odin's spear. The spear's name means "Swaying One". It was fashioned by those dwarfs known only as the Sons of Ivaldi, according to Skáldskaparmál. It was obtained from the dwarves by Loki as a partial reparation for his theft of Sif's hair. It has the practical characteristic of always hitting its target, and when thrown will always return to the hand.
