Graceland University is a private liberal arts university of about 2300 students and 150 faculty with campuses in Lamoni, Iowa and Independence, Missouri. The school, though non-sectarian, is affiliated with the Community of Christ and was founded in 1895.

Its main campus is located in Lamoni, Iowa. This residential campus offers 43 majors and 60 degree options, 17 varsity sports, campus wide activities, and intramural sports.

The Independence campus is an urban campus that houses the school of nursing, undergraduate and graduate programs in education and Community of Christ Seminary. This campus also houses the Center for the Study of the Korean War, the largest Korean War archive in the United States.

Graceland’s current President is the former US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Chief of Mission at the US Office in Kosovo, John K. Menzies.

Graceland won first-place in the four-year division of the SIFE USA National Exposition in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 23, 2006.

Housing System

Instead of having fraternities and sororities like most Universities, Graceland has an automatic housing system where people are automatically placed once they have been accepted into the school. Each house deals with the same functions that closely resembles a fraternity or sorority. In addition, each house has positions to organize and run their affairs, including a President, a Vice President, a C.O.S.A. (Council of Student Activities) member, a S.A.C. (Student Academic Council) member, a Senator (a person who makes sure everything is functioning correctly around campus), an Intramurals representative, a Chaplain, and finally Crescents (who only are featured in women's houses and whose duties include decorating and doing arts and crafts). All members of a house council are elected to their positions by members of their house.
