Governing Body Commission (GBC) is the name for the managerial authority of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). ISKCON's founder, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada , created the GBC in 1970 and since that time it has met on an annual basis. Devamrita Swami, who is well-known for his work on creating urban preaching centres, is Chairman. The First Vice-Chairman is Bhaktivaibhava Swami of Germany, the Second Vice-Chairman is Bhanu Swami and the Secretary is Radha Krishna Dasa of the Chowpatty centre in Bombay. The Duty Officer is Kavicandra Swami. This past year, the Governing Body Commission has agreed that members of ISKCON who are female, may also be "initiating spiritial masters," or gurus *. New elections will be held in March 2006 during the annual Gaura Purnima celebrations in Mayapur, Bengal, India.
Some of the present members are: Bhaktarupa Prabhu, Prahladananda Swami, Prabha Visnu Swami, Gauri Prabhu, Ramabhadra Prabhu, Ramai Swami, Badrinarayana Prabhu, Param Gati Swami, Hari Vilas Prabhu, Bhakta Vijnana Swami, Bhakti Bhusana Swami, Bhakti Caitanya Swami, Sivarama Swami, Bhakti Purusottama Swami, Ravindra Swarupa, Gopal Krishna Goswami, Bhakti Caru Swami, Pragosh Prabhu, Krsnadas Kaviraja Prabhu, Bir Krsna Goswami, Hari Sauri Prabhu, Anuttama Prabhu, and Malati devi dasi.
