Gouais Blanc is a white grape variety that is hardly grown any more. It is believed to originate in Croatia, but was grown in Jura, although it is now rare there.
DNA fingerprinting research at the University of California, Davis suggests that Chardonnay originated as a cross between Pinot and Gouais Blanc.
