Gold Hill, never formally incorporated as a town (disputed), was a mining complex built to process ore from the Gold Hill Mine and other local claims on the Comstock Lode. The complex operated from 1927 until 1942, though operations were sporadic after 1933 when the price of ore made continuous operations unprofitable. Just under one million dollars worth of ore was extracted after 1930. All that remain standing are the hoist and the mill's foundation.

A picture exists online of Gold Hill as a sprawling town circa 1875, which lends doubt to the above assertions.
