Professor Gerald Russell was a professor and consultant psychiatrist who worked at the Royal Free Hospital, London. In 1979 he moved to the Institue of Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital, London where he set up an eating disorder unit, which has been named after him.
He described bulimia nervosa for the first time in 1979.
