Georg Brandt (b. Skinnskatteberg parish, Västmanland County June 26 1694; d. Stockholm April 29 1768) was a Swedish chemist and mineralogist who discovered cobalt in 1737 while trying to prove that bismuth is not the only element that can be used to color glass or other silicates blue.
