Friedrich August Johannes Löffler (June 24, 1852 – April 9, 1915) was a German bacteriologist at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald. Among his discoveries was the organism causing diphtheria (Corynebacterium diphtheriae), or the cause of foot and mouth disease.

The German Federal Research Institute for Animal Health on the Isle of Riems near Greifswald is named in his honor.
