Frank Finley Merriam (December 22, 1865 – April 25, 1955) was Governor of California from June 2, 1934 until January 2, 1939. A Republican, he defeated Democratic candidate Upton Sinclair in the 1934 election. He served prior to this as the Lieutenant Governors of California from 1931-1934. He served on the California State Assembly from 1917-1926 and while there, he was the speaker from 1923-26.
Born in 1865 in Hopkinton, Iowa, he began his political career as Iowa state auditor, serving from 1899-1903. He died in Long Beach, California in 1955 aged 89.
