- For the Texas psychedelic band, see Euphoria (band).
Euphoria was a very popular Australian Pop/Dance music trio from the early 1990s and were based out of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The group was founded by producer Andrew Klippel and featured the vocals of Keren Minshull and Holly Garnett. Model Jodie Meares joined the act after Garnett left.
Profile
The act appeared on the
Australian music scene in
1991 with their first single "Love You Right." That song was featured on the
Australian soap operas "
Neighbours" and "
E Street." It was through that exposure, along with widespread radio airplay, that "Love You Right" would become their first #1 single on the
ARIA Pop chart. Other top ten singles followed, including "One In A Million" (#1), "Do For You" (#7) and the less successful fourth single "I Will Never Leave You" (#41). All of these tracks came from their first and only album, "Total Euphoria" (#14) which was released in the Spring of
1992. A new single, "Elated" was released in 1993 but failed to have any impact, and the group subsequently disbanded.

Controversy
There was some controversy in 1991 when "Love You Right" hit the charts in Australia. The video clip showed Holly lip-syncing while Keren was absent altogether. Keren appeared in the video clip for "One In A Million" in mid-1992.
Another factor in the group's short-lived career was the sudden departure of Garnett and the decision to replace her with Meares. This new lineup, along with the lip-syncing controversy and the failure of "Elated" would be the act's downfall.
Life after Euphoria
Although the group broke up in
1993, Klippel has since become a much in demand producer, working with such artists as
Human Nature and
Jocelyn Brown and forming the dance outfits
Elastic,
AK Soul and
Deepface. In
2005, Deepface was nominated for an ARIA Dance Award for the song "Been Good". The female members of Euphoria,
Keren Minshull and
Holly Garnett, pursued solo and background vocal projects. Meares, who would go on to marry and later divorce
James Packer, continued with her modeling career and later start her own swimwear line.
Speculation
Rumours of Holly Garnett's suicide in the early 2000's still tarnish the dance band's history. This is yet to be confirmed.
Innovators
Thanks to the breakthrough success of "Love You Right" via TV, nightclub and video exposure, Euphoria can also lay claim for bringing Australia's emerging Dance music scene to the forefront, resulting in ARIA launching a Dance chart in 1992 and paving the way for home grown Dance acts like
Joanne Accom,
Rogue Traders,
TV Rock,
Madison Avenue,
Puretone, and many others, to follow in their footsteps by taking their sound beyond the continent to other places like the
United Kingdom and The
United States.
