An Equine veterinarian is a veterinarian who treats horses. Horses are different in anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and husbandry to other domestic species. Most, if not all, veterinary schools worldwide still produce graduates able to practice with a wide variety of species. Specialisation in equine veterinary practice is something that is normally developed after qualification, even if students do have some interest before graduation. In most countries further postgraduate qualifications are not necessary, but may be desirable, to be an equine veterinarian.

Equine veterinarians in the USA are certified by the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
