Generally speaking, episcopal churches are Christian denominations under the leadership of a bishop (episcopos in Greek). There are numerous such groupings in the Christian word (see episcopal). Episcopal churches have a particluar governing structure and character (see episcopal polity)
There are also independent Anglican churches which incorporate the title "Episcopal," such as the Reformed Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Missionary Church, and the Traditional Protestant Episcopal Church.
