Entheogenic is a psybient duo similar in style to Shpongle. Their sound is strongly influenced by world music, as it contains a large amount of vocal samples taken from eastern cultures as well as a number of "tribal sounding" instruments. Entheogenic also records a large amount of "natural" samples of water, talking, birdsong, etc.

History


Background

Entheogenic was formed in 1999 by Piers Oak-Rhind and Helmut Glavar. The duo met while working for EMAGIC (a computer based music production software company). The name Entheogenic is derived from the term Entheogen coined in 1979 by a a group of ethnobotanists and mythology scholars to describe psychoactive substances used in a religious or shamanic context.

Entheogenic on the German "Chill-Out" Charts
In November of 2003 Entheogenic's second album, Spontaneous Illumination, released on the German label C.O.R.N. Recordings (SONY Music Entertainment Gmbh), went to Number 1 in the German Chill-Out Charts, where it remained Number 1 for 8 weeks. Spontaneous Illumination stayed in the Top 10 for an additional 12 weeks.
