Encyclopædia Iranica is a grand project of Columbia University's Center for Iranian Studies to create a comprehensive and authoritiative English language encyclopedia about the history and culture of Persia (Iran).

It has already published 12 volumes, and is planning to publish a total of up to 30 volumes. It is edited by Ehsan Yarshater and a full board, chaired by Mahmoud Khayami, including 40 editors and 910 scholar authors from academic institutions in the United States, Europe, and Asia, including notables such as Nicholas Sims-Williams, Richard Nelson Frye, Gherardo Gnoli, Xavier de Planhol, Hamid Algar, Christoph Marcinkowski and others. Since 1979, it has been sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, and funded by the NEH and a variety of charitable foundations and individuals.

The full text of entries is available for free viewing online. PC users will require a simple free font download in order to have the words display using their intended characters and accents.
