E.ON AG )( , based in Düsseldorf, Germany, is an energy corporation, one of the 30 members of the DAX stock index of major German companies. It came into existence through the 2000 merger of VEBA and VIAG, its CEO (Vorstandsvorsitzender) is Wulf H. Bernotat.
E.ON is one of the major public utility companies in Europe and the world’s largest investor-owned energy service provider. It has, for example, acquired Sydkraft in Sweden and Powergen in the United Kingdom. These have now been rebranded to E.ON Sverige and E.ON UK respectively. It tries to acquire Endesa in Spain.
The expansion of the European Union (EU) allowed E.ON to itself in Central Europe, such as Hungary and Poland, and in accession countries Romania and Bulgaria. It is also present in Russia, where it is engaged in a natural gas company. E.ON most of Scandinavia.
In the United States, E.ON has renamed LG&E Energy to E.ON U.S., and is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky.
On February 3 2006 it was announced that E.ON had signed a 4 year deal to sponsor the Football Association Cup (FA Cup), along with the FA Women's Cup and FA Youth Cup, starting from the 2006/2007 season*. They are also the current sponsors of English Championship side Ipswich Town.
