In
Egyptian mythology,
Duat (or Tuat) (also called
Akert or
Amenthes) is the
underworld, where the
sun traveled from west to east during the night and where dead souls were judged by
Anubis, using a feather, representing
Truth. Souls which were weighted down by
sin were eaten by
Ammut. It is not known however wheather a sinner's heart is heavier or lighter than the feather if they are bad, only that to be accepted into heaven the heart must weigh the same.
