Don Lawrence (Donald Southam Lawrence) (November 11, 1928, London - December 29, 2003, Jevington) was a British comic book artist and author. His works include: Marvelman, Billy the Kid, Wells Fargo, Pony Express, Olac the Gladiator, Karl the Viking and The Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire. In 1976, he started drawing for a Dutch publisher, Uitgeverij Oberon. The first story was written by his friend Vince Wernham, but the result - Commander Grek - wasn't very successful. Storm, who was modeled after Commander Grek, proved to be very successful in The Netherlands. Especially his collaboration with Martin Lodewijk was very fruitful. Lawrence received many Dutch comic book awards, and in 2003 he received the Knighthood in the Order of Orange-Nassau. He died in 2003 of an emphysema, at the age of 75. The cover of the 2005 dEUS album Pocket Revolution is one of the last works of Don Lawrence.
