One such institution is a four-year private college in Orangeburg, a suburb of New York City in Rockland County, New York. The college was founded in 1952 by the Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt as a teacher training school for women. The college is now co-educational.
There was formerly also a Dominican College in New Orleans, Louisiana; its former campus is now part of the property of Loyola University New Orleans.
Dominican University of California, situated in San Rafael, California, was founded in 1890 as Dominican College; in 2000, the college changed its name to its current appellation.
