Dendrocnide is a genus of 70 species of shrub to medium-large tree in the nettle family Urticaceae. They have a pantropical distribution, with concentration being in South-East Asia.
They are colloquially known as stinging nettles, and one Australian species, D. excelsa can grow to over 40 metres in height.
Dendrocnide species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Aenetus scotti.
