Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,131 km² (437 mi²). 1,115 km² (431 mi²) of it is land and 16 km² (6 mi²) of it (1.42%) is water.
History
Daviess County was formed in 1817. It was named for Maj. Joseph Hamilton Daviess, U.S. District Attorney for Kentucky, killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811.

The per capita income for the county was $16,015. About 9.60% of families and 13.80% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.70% of those under age 18 and 12.00% of those age 65 or over.
