The Davey O'Brien Award, awarded since 1981 by the Davey O'Brien Foundation, is one of three annual awards for the best college football quarterback, the others being the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Manning Award. The O'Brien Award is generally considered more prestigious, since all quarterbacks are eligible and it has been awarded since 1981. The Unitas Award is restricted to seniors; the Manning Award is open to all quarterbacks, but did not exist until 2004. The award is named after Davey O'Brien, the only college football player to ever win the Heisman, Maxwell, and Walter Camp trophies in the same year.
