Fueled by a fascination with larger-than-life heroes, Dave Meinstein's career has always been a reflection of his personal interests - from his summer internships at Marvel Comics to his former job as writer/producer/host of Portal. Previously, Meinstein was a writer/producer at E! Entertainment Television in Los Angeles and attended the University of Southern California's famed School of Cinema-Television. He is also - supposedly - a master fingerpainter and writer of children's books.
Bearing a slight resemblance to David Bowman of A Space Odyssey (film), he set this similarity in both name and appearance as a backdrop for the premise of Portal.
Despite being one of the most popular (and controversial) programs on the network, Portal, along with Blister, was cancelled to make room for the merger of G4TV and TechTV. It was expected that Dave would not be fired, producing a new show on the network. This was not so, however, though the exact details of why he was let go are unclear.
Dave has stated both on the G4TV Forums and on his own website (see below) that he is currently working on a new "top secret movie project" and several other as-yet-unannounced projects. No details are currently known of the film, although he stated that it would contain the same spark that made Portal so enjoyable.
As of August 2005, Dave has created a new forum page for his fans, announcing the title of a T.V. show he is planning. "Project ROTP" may very well be as it is speculated: Return of the Portals.
