Dart Feld is the chief protagonist in the Sony PlayStation RPG, The Legend of Dragoon. He is 23 years old, wields a Broad Sword, and has spiky, brown hair. His Dragoon Spirits are the Red-Eyed Dragoon Spirit and the Divine Dragoon Spirit.

The Black Monster

When Dart was five years old and living with his parents Zieg and Claire Feld, his hometown of Neet, Mille Seseau, was attacked by a mysterious figure known only as the Black Monster who appears every 108 years when the Moon That Never Sets glows red, signifying that a Moon Child will descend and give "holy" bliss to the world of Endiness. Dart and his parents had fled the burning village, but Zieg chose to go back and fight the figure, embracing Claire for the last time and telling her to take care of their son. Claire told her boy that his father could fight, and she went back with him to fight for Neet, but only the game makers and players know what happened to them both. The next day, Dart found a shining memento that his father carried around the whole time--he does not yet know that it is the Red-Eyed Dragoon Spirit.

13 Years Later

Leaving his new village of Seles, Serdio, behind to gain revenge on the Black Monster, Dart travels around the world alongside Master Haschel of the Rouge School of Martial Arts, who is looking for his daughter, Claire.

The Serdian War

In the time that the game takes place (which happens five years after Dart and Haschel are unable to locate the Black Monster), we first see Dart reading what appears to be a newspaper about the Serdian War between King Albert's Duchy of Basil and Emperor Doel's Imperial Sandora. He hears a stampede of Sandora Soldiers and the Green-Tusked Dragon Feyrbrand. As Dart is about to get killed, he is saved by a swordswoman who tells him that the soldiers he had seen were headed toward his hometown, Seles. When he arrives, he sees soldiers attacking an innocent villager but fights and defeats them. The villager uses his last words to tell him to rescue Dart's childhood friend, Shana. Dart then meets up with Plos, the mayor of Seles who tells Dart that Shana was captured, but he doesn't know where Sandora took her. Seconds later, a Sandorian Commander appeared and told them that Shana was taken to custody in Hellena Prison and proceeded to fight Dart in the first boss battle of the game.

Dart then proceeds to Hellena to rescue Shana, but first, he had to take lessons from Master Tasman of how to fight with using Additions, Counterattacking, obtaining Additions and Guarding.

After his lessons he goes through a Forest on his way to Hellena. While in Hellena, he meets Sir Lavitz Slambert, Head of the First Knighthood of Basil. After they fight off guards, they rescue Shana, battle Fruegel--the Head Warden of Hellena Prison, and escape into a Prairie. There, Shana heals Lavitz, and Dart tells the two about his tragic past, involving what he thought was the death of his parents at the hands of a mysterious "Black Monster." After that the trio heads for Indels Castle. While they were in the Limestone Cave--the last location before Bale--our heroes battle Urobolus, a giant snake who guards the cave. After the fight, we see a mysterious power comeing from Shana's forehead. Afterwards, they finally reached Indels Castle in Bale, where they met King Albert and Minister Noish, who holds information about many things about Endiness. When Dart asks him about the Black Monster, the only thing Noish knows is that the monster is a "devil" who devours a "god." Instead, he told Dart about the Dragon Campaign, a war between Humans and the ancient race of Winglies. The Humans had won and "acquired the future." After a war briefing, Lavitz told the two about Sandora's plan of using Feyrbrand to attack Hoax. Dart and Shana, no longer wanting to see anymore pointless bloodshed, decide to head with him to Hoax to end the civil war. But first, Sir Lavitz suggests that he and the two from Seles go to Item Shops, Weapon Shops, and his mother. By doing so, the two know more about their new friend, and Dart shares a special bond with him. Soon, they leave Bale for the Town of Hoax which resembles a fortress. They meet Sir Kaiser, Head of the Eighth Knighthood. Only Dart and Lavitz are in battles with the Sandorian forces who invade Hoax. The enemies consist of two Sandora Soldiers, a Sandora Elite (who can create two images of himself but can be attacked by multiplying attack items.), and a Giganto warrior known as Kongol. When Dart is about to deliver the final blow, Kongol counters and attempts to kill him. Just then, the swordswoman who saved Dart from Feyrbrand appears in Dragoon form and awakens the Red-Eyed Dragoon Spirit. In an odd transformation, Dart knocks out Kongol and is told by the warrior that he is a Dragon and that her name is Rose. Rose and Shana do not get along well at first, but when Dart tells Shana that Rose is the one who saved him, Shana apologizes, and Rose forgives her--she is used to being detested.

Before the quartet head to Feyrbrand's Nest, Rose teaches Dart how to fight as a Dragoon. First the player must execute an Addition to accumulate more Spirit Points (SP). Once the SP meter is full, the player will transform into a Dragoon by clicking on the Dragoon icon that appears on the command center. When the player chooses D-Attack, he/she must press the X button five times in a row to get a perfect. When the player chooses D-Magic (which is the only way to spend your MP), he/she will witness a Dragoon Spell; the only one Dart is equipped with is Flameshot.

Inside the Volcano Villude, Dart's friend, Shana, feels something calling to her and finds a Virage. Dart protects her by fighting it and giving it the final blow. After that they go and find Dabas, a merchant from the Commercial Town of Lohan. After that, they confront the Fire Bird and defeat with their Dragoon Spirits.

At the Dragon's Nest, they fight and defeat Greham and Feyrbrand. After the battle, however, Shana was affected with Dragon's poison. Determined to save his friend's life, Dart takes her to Lohan and hears about the Dragoni Plant in Shirley's Shrine. Dart, Lavitz (who now has the Jade Dragoon Spirit from Greham), and Rose go there and get it. There, they face Drake the Bandit, countered his traps, and defeated him. After the battle, the spirit of Shirley appears and tests their hearts by transforming into the people they know and love. For Dart, she is Shana. She asks him about what is most important to him, Shana or the Black Monster. Dart responds "Shana," and she'll say thank you. After the test, she gives them the White-Silver Dragoon Spirit to heal Shana.

When they give her the spirit, she becomes a Dragoon and fully heals.

After that is over, the doctor tells Dart that he is on time for the Hero Competition, a tournament that determines "The Strongest Under the Stars." At the arena, Dart signs up, but the others refuse to participate with him. Lavitz whispers to him NOT to transform into a Dragoon, because that will cause a big mess.

There he remeets Haschel of the Rouge School. The two fight various opponents. Dart had to face Gongola, a cheater who uses poison at the start of Round 1; Serfius, a warrior with great respect at Round 2; Danton, a slow but strong fighter with a gigantic Hammer at Round 3; and Atlow, an archer who uses poison apples in the Semi-Finals. When the Semi-Finals were over, Haschel told Dart that he lost to a magnificent swordsman named Lloyd. The platinum-haired fighter appeared and dedicated the Finals to what fate has in store for him and Dart in the future.

The Battle with the Gehrich Gang, Lenus and Regole

After Chapter 1 has ended, Dart and co. head for Fletz, Tiberoa, to find Lloyd and make him talk about why he kidnapped Shana from Seles. At the end of the chapter Dart and Shana confess their love for each other and kiss each other on the lips.

The Divine Dragon and Lloyd

After their dance at the banquet in Twins Castle, Dart and company head for Furni the Water Town in Mille Seseau, Dart's birth country. There he has his moments with Shana, learns about a wolf running wild in the Evergreen Forest, and the Divine Dragon who had been let loose from the Mountain of the Mortal Dragon. He finds out later at the mountain that Lloyd had set him loose, but Lloyd could not control it.

Dart's Additions

  • Double Slash
  • Volcano
  • Burning Rush
  • Crush Dance
  • Madness Hero
  • Moon Strike
  • Blazing Dynamo

Use in Battle

As your protagonist, you will be using Dart for most of the game; luckilly, he is one of the better all-around characters, if not the best. He has average stats overall, but his powerful additions give him the edge physically. It takes a while to gain his final addition, Blazing Dynamo, since he has more additions than any other character, but since he'll be in your party most of the time it's not difficult to gain them. He has average magic attack stats, so if you want to use magic attack items, you should probably let a character with a higher magic attack stat use them, such as Meru or Shana. In Dragoon Form, his magical spells are quite useful, even though his magic attack is about average with the rest of the characters. Flame Shot is good right out of the box and is useful for the entire game as a low-cost effective attack. Explosion hits multiple targets, but its low power makes it less useful. Final Burst is a high-damage single target attack, and one of the most useful Dragoon Spells in the entire game--its high cost is certainly justified. His summon, like others, has too high a cost to be worth using, but it hits multiple targets for high damage and certainly looks pretty.
