}} is the main character from the 1995 Super Famicom/SNES game Chrono Trigger, developed by Square Co., Ltd.. Many fans of the game suspect that the name Crono is likely meant to be Chrono due to the limitation on character names being 5 letters at most. Since the Japanese クロノ cannot specify anything beyond the pronunciation of the name, it's unclear whether or not this is a correct assumption, as Crono and Chrono have no pronunciation difference.
In 12,000 B.C., when the party is confronted with the parasitic alien Lavos in the Ocean Palace of the Kingdom of Zeal, Crono sacrifices himself in order to save his friends (and with this, the image Janus had foreseen turns out to be truth). Later, using the Chrono Trigger (Time Egg), he is saved from this fate.
Despite being the game's protagonist, Crono never speaks in the game's dialogue, as it is the case in some RPG and video-games, with the notable exception occurring in one of the game's many endings. Designed by Akira Toriyama, Crono shares many of the man's design characteristics, including spiky hair, well-defined muscles, and large eyes. This design reminds many of his character Goku from his smash hit Dragon Ball series. His weapon of choice is a katana.
After being drawn into a time vortex following the defeat of Magus at his lair, Crono has a vision that he and Marle will be married later (and that he is, at the time, unemployed). The PlayStation remake of Chrono Trigger includes an FMV scene at the end that shows Crono and Marle proceeding through their wedding celebration. In the sequel, Chrono Cross, Crono, Marle and Lucca are presumed to have died according to some individuals, while others believe that they are all right, and their 'ghosts' are really 'time echoes' as is discussed here in the Chrono Compendium
