The Crested Argus, Rheinardia ocellata is a large, up to 235cm, pheasant with dark brown spotted black and buff plumage, pink bill, brown iris and blue skin around eye. The head is small, decorated with white erect crest feathers on rear crown. Male has a huge, broad and greatly elongated tail of twelve feathers, that reach up to five times lengths of its outermost. Female is alike, with shorter crest and tail.

Little is known about this species in the wild. A shy and elusive bird, it inhabits to forests of Vietnam, Laos and Malaysia in Southeast Asia.

Due to ongoing habitat lost, as well as hunting in some areas, the Crested Argus is evaluated as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List. It is listed on Appendix I of CITES.
