Courvoisier is a type of cognac. Courvoisier is famous for being the favorite drink of Napoleon who is rumoured to have ensured that several barrels be sent with him to Saint Helena and Elba during his exile and banishment. The first company to produce Courvoisier was established by Felix Courvoisier in 1835.

Popular culture
This brand in particular has become part of African-American popular culture, modifying its image as a drink for upper class Britons. The American rapper Busta Rhymes wrote a song "Pass The Courvoisier" in which he declares his preference for Courvoisier over Hennessy and Rémy Martin Cognacs and Cristal Champagne: "Give me the Henny, you can give me the Cris \ You can pass me the Remi, but the pass the Courvoisier." Courvoisier is also known as being the favorite drink of Leon Phelps (also known as The Ladies Man), an African-American character from a popular Saturday Night Live skit. In the film Love and Death (1975), when told of Napoleon invading Russia, Boris (Woody Allen) queried, "What, did he run out of Courvoisier?"
