Company is a 2002 Hindi film directed by Ram Gopal Varma, starring Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi and Mohanlal. It is a fictional exposé of the Mumbai underworld, loosely based on the Indian mafia organization D-Company known to be run by Dawood Ibrahim. This critically acclaimed movie is regarded as Ram Gopal Varma's best and most mature effort.
The film highlighted the economics behind running a mafia gang.
The story revolves around a young man named Chandu (Vivek Oberoi) joining the world of crime to make it big someday. Gradually he learns tricks of the trade and increases the gang's earnings and profits. This leads to his affinity with Malik Ajay Devgan. However, both come at loggerheads over the execution of a contract killing where a politician hires Malik's gang to eliminate the Home Minister. The rift between Vivek Oberoi and Ajay Devgan widens due to misunderstandings. Both become bitter enemies of each other. Both Chandu and Malik now try to eliminate as many members of each other's gang as possible and results into an intense gang war. The film reaches its climax when Chandu kills the politician (the mastermind behind murders) within the prison. At the same time, one of Chandu's aides shoots Malik point blank. The film ends on a sad note wherein Chandu spends the rest of his life in jail.
An eminent character played by Mohanlal is the police commissioner. He persuades Chandu to surrender to police. He gives some notable surmons on the pros and cons of entering the underworld. Some parts of the movies have been lifted from Scarface_(1983_movie)*
