The city of Coevorden

Coevorden received city rights in 1408.

The city was reconstructed in the early seventeenth century by Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange to an ideal city design, similar to Palmanova. The streets were laid out in a radial pattern within polygonal fortifications and extensive outer earthworks.

Two cities and a large island (and more) in North America, called Vancouver, have been named after George Vancouver, whose family name may have been derived from 'Van Coeverden', meaning 'from Coeverden', however this is still a hotly disputed topic based solely on the unproven and speculated theories of Mr. Adrien Mansfeld, hence the locations mentioned were indirectly named after this city.
