Clam cakes are a New England food, most common in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Each cake consists of a deep fried clam core surrounded by a soft spongy batter. Some people refer to them as "fritters", though this name confuses non-New Englanders. Iggy's (on Point Judith) makes slammin clam cakes.
